Gore For President, Guess Not

When asked if he would partake in the 2008 presidential elections, Al Gore said No. Despite his growth in popularity after making the well known film titled, "The Inconvenient Truth," and accomplishment of receiving the Nobel Piece Prize, Gore is no longer interested in running for president. He says he now has other interests, such as the fight to inform and bring about change in regards to dealing with global warming. I believe he has done an amazing job broadcasting the effects of Global Warming. Although it is not definite as to whether or not Global Warming is indeed true, a large part as to why i believe in it has to do with Al Gore. His movie was an awakening and brought about a lot of change in my household. My dad told a bunch of people about the movie, changed all of our lights to fluorescent and over all is more aware of the environment. Al Gore brought a topic that was slowly gaining interest to life by attaching his well known face to it. Basically, people already knew him from when he ran for President, so they trusted in what he was saying. However, in regards to running for President, in a poll taken it was determined that, "(people) asked if they would like to see Gore run for president in 2008, people said no by a margin of 54 percent to 41 percent, according to the Gallup Poll, about the same as in March, when people opposed his running by 57 percent to 38 percent (2)" Obviously he has gained some popularity, but not tremendously. I think that his decision to not run for President was a good one. He is doing an excellent job promoting saving the earth and catering to our environment. His achievement in receiving the Nobel Piece Prize is amazing, however, it does not immediately make him eligible to be the next President.

Hey Rachel, Yeah it looks like Gore is not running for office, but why would he. At this point he would have to compete with about ten other democratic party candidates. Really it is too late to join the race. I think that Gore at this point is happy with his political career. He just won the Nobel Peace Prize for his works agaisnt global warming. Maybe his real career is environmentalism.

I agree. Gore has made such progress in his life just by letting people know about global warming. The fact that he ran for president helped make "The Inconvenient Truth" more popular, and I believe that through this movie, Gore has made the United States more environmentally conscious. I also think that it is a good idea that he did not run for president because although many of his ideas would aid our society, helping stop global warming is a very important and helpful gesture.

I think it was a good decision for Al Gore to decide not to run for president. Obviously running for president, let alone being president, is a HUGE job. This would take away from his main mission: to inform the world about global warming. We need someone like Gore to continue the fight against global warming, and his being president would probably reduce that fight greatly.

I agree with all the people above. As the polls show, America just does not want Gore to be our president. Personally, I feel that he really didn't run for president because he didn't think he would win. He made a smart move because he would clearly not be welcomed.

i agree with you rachel. I think he put so much effort in trying to win in decision 2000 that it kind of hurt his morale. Al Gore has done many things as a individal but not as a true candidate for president. I am a democrat but i'm actually happy that he's not running this time. He was the better candidate when he was up against Bush, but the past is the past. I am all for the environment through is actions on taking on the issue of global warming even if it might not be entirely true. To be honest, he wouldn't have the support of the majority of the citizens due to the acions he has done since he ran in 2000. He should just stick with the environment like what sean davies said.

Rachel, I agree with your post as well as most of the other comments. It was a good decision for Gore not to enter the presidential race. Like Lea said, his film, "The Inconvenient Truth" as well as Gore's other work in environmentalism, has made him a well known, well recognized figure in our nation. He has defintely left a good mark and brought about necessary change with environmental issues. Hopefully now instead of considering presidency, he can keep his focus on the environment!
